Courage does not always roar.  Sometimes it is a quiet voice at the end of the day, saying…”I will try again tomorrow.”

The only things that stand between a person and what they want in life are the will to try it, and the faith to believe it’s possible.

    Making a Difference

    gators

Meet Coach John Stephens, Head Football Coach for the Ware County High School Gators in Waycross, Georgia. Stephens has been making a difference in the lives of young people for most of his life, and continues to follow his passion for football and coaching. The Gators were the 2007 State AAAA Runners-up with a final score of 14-20 against the Northside Warner Robins Eagles.

Over 43 years ago John Stephens decided he wanted to be a football coach, and that is what he's been busily pursuing ever since. According to his wife, he coaches "probably because he looks at everyone and everything and sees what he hopes for and what SHOULD or COULD be more strongly than he looks at what IS. Maybe he's just never grown up…but whatever it is, he is simply 'magic' with kids."

Stephens cannot remember when he wasn't a WORLD customer. He says "World Sporting Goods' training equipment is so practical….there are no gimmicks. Not only does their equipment LOOK good, it is functional."

gators1 Coach Stephens is optimistic about the 2008 season, with many key players returning:

    Psychology of Football Coaching

    The Psychology of Football Coaching

    By Coach S. "Chuck" Myers

Football coaching is psychological. It involves motivating, disciplining, teaching, and caring. If you are lucky, you will have very talented athletes who thus far have relied on their natural talents—speed, agility, size—but who, because they are gifted, may be undisciplined and not have much of a work ethic. Often, you will have less talented athletes who may need help in areas such as persistence and self-confidence. You can be sure you will have a wide range of personalities to deal with and win over.

    Passion

Regardless of the talent of your players and your level of football, one of the most important traits you can show is passion: passion for your players and passion for the game that they are playing and that you are coaching. Passion consists of excitement, devotion, love, involvement, attention, and—very important—energy transfer. If you truly have passion for the game of football, your players will see that in you, and your energy and enthusiasm will be contagious. If you don’t have passion for football, you’re in the wrong profession. If your enthusiasm for your job is waning a bit, think about the fact that hundreds of guys are driving home tonight past football fields and dreaming of being you.
